Christmas Gifts for Sponsored Children
The story of a six-year-old growing up in poverty whose parents can’t afford presents is overjoyed by receiving a gift from her sponsor.24th September 2025

Ivana is an only child who lives in Bulgaria. Her family home leaks when it rains and the family relies on a small wood-burning stove for heating during the cold winter months.
Her parents earn a little income from cleaning homes, yards and working vegetable gardens. They sometimes collect mushrooms, blueberries and herbs, to sell. Their low wages mean that after paying for the basics of food, clothing and shelter, they have nothing left for any luxuries
For Ivana, the idea of a Christmas present seemed like a distant dream as her family can’t afford it. However, thanks to the incredible kindness of Mission Without Borders' sponsors, Ivana received a Christmas present last year that would change her holiday experience.

The box she was given contained a smaller box wrapped in colourful paper and a bright ribbon within which was a beautiful toy she had always wanted . But that wasn't all. The box also included new clothes, a storybook, coloured pencils and a drawing pad, and a game that Ivana had never seen before. There were also treats: chocolates, biscuits and sweets.
Ivana’s face lit up with surprise and joy as she unwrapped the gift. When she held the toy, she let out a joyful squeal and said, “This is the best present ever! I can't believe it's mine! Say thank you to the kind people who sent this to me.”
Ivana's mother watched her daughter's reaction with tears in her eyes:
“As a parent, it breaks my heart that I cannot provide for my child like so many others do,” she said. “Seeing Ivana's happiness today is a blessing that I am truly grateful for."

Our mission this winter is to bring joy to more children like Ivana who face hardship. Seeing the smiles on the face of children and parents, knowing that we can make a difference, even if just for a moment, motivates us every day.
