The Scholarship Fund helps young people living in poverty across Eastern Europe continue their education. By covering essential educational costs, the fund removes barriers that might otherwise prevent students from completing high school, vocational training or university studies.
Many families supported by Mission Without Borders struggle to afford the costs associated with education. Transport costs, course fees, school supplies and other essential expenses can place education beyond reach. Scholarships help ensure that poverty does not prevent a young person from fulfilling their potential.
Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate a commitment to their education and whose financial circumstances would otherwise prevent them from continuing their studies. Applications are carefully assessed by local Mission Without Borders staff.
We hope to provide 100 life-changing scholarships to young people living in poverty across Eastern Europe this autumn.
High School Scholarships, Vocational Scholarships and University Scholarships. Each scholarship helps students pursue the educational pathway best suited to their skills, interests and future goals.
Depending on the student's needs, a scholarship may contribute towards course or tuition fees, transport costs, accommodation costs, educational supplies and materials, and other essential study-related expenses.
In many rural communities across Eastern Europe, families can live many miles from the nearest high school. For young people living in poverty, the cost of travel, accommodation and educational supplies can make continuing their education impossible. Some children are forced to leave school early to work, help support their families at home or, in some communities, enter into marriage at a young age. As a result, continuing education beyond Year 8 can be little more than a dream. High School Scholarships help remove these barriers, giving young people the opportunity to stay in education, fulfil their potential and build a brighter future.
Every student's circumstances are different. While some High School Scholarships can be provided from as little as £200, other students face higher educational costs depending on where they live and what support they need. The cost of a scholarship can therefore vary significantly from one student to another.
Students submit an application before the start of the academic year. Applications are reviewed by Mission Without Borders staff, who assess educational commitment, financial need and eligibility before selecting scholarship recipients.
Students typically return to school, vocational college or university between September and October, depending on their country, course and educational institution.
Before receiving support, students must provide proof of enrolment from their school, college or university. Throughout the academic year, local Mission Without Borders staff monitor attendance, educational progress and the use of scholarship funds.
Students are required to provide receipts, invoices or expense reports to demonstrate how scholarship funds have been used.
Yes. In the coming weeks, we'll send you a scholarship profile containing further information about the student you're supporting. We hope this will help you pray for them and encourage you throughout the academic year. When the academic year is over, we'll contact you to let you know whether the student has successfully completed their year of study. We'll also give you the opportunity to support the student again for another year, helping them continue their educational journey and work towards their future goals.
Most students continue and successfully complete their studies. However, in a small number of cases, a student may decide to change course or be unable to continue their education. In the unlikely event that this happens, we'll let you know and discuss the available options with you.
Scholarships are reviewed annually. Students are expected to attend their courses and make satisfactory progress in their studies. Continued support is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
